Phase II Notes - Early on, still
keeping daily notes |

I was running short of time this morning - only did 10 minutes on
treadmill. Started introduction of "good carbs" at supper - long grain wild
rice. I had a very small portion as a test. I also missed my treadmill at
night - painted a wall in the kitchen instead and didn't finish until almost
10:30, at which time sleep seemed like a more necessary activity. |

I did a ton of walking today at the mall. I was there all
day for a Job Fair and spent a lot of time setting up for all the vendors. I
also wanted to break my 18 minute mile tonight. I ended up beating it by a
minute. One other note regarding my stomach size: evidently my original
measurement was WAY off. I tried on a suit coat today that I have not been
able to wear in almost a year because I couldn't button it. Not only did it
button, but I had about 2 inches or so to spare! Don't know if it's the
diet, the exercise or a combination of the two. |
| Wed - 3/22/2006 |
started the day with a carb, after walking 1.25 miles on the
treadmill while watching the morning news. I splurged a bit with a hamburger at lunch, though it was grilled
and I didn't get a bun. I had a customer today that I haven't seen in almost
a year. Upon seeing me, he exclaimed "Holy Shit! Have you lost the weight!"
Evidently, it's really showing. Not bad results for 2 1/2 weeks into this
thing... |
| Thu - 3/23/2006 |
I rebuilt my stats log today with more realistic estimated
starting measurements. I also added BMI to the chart, thanks to a tool my
daughter had linked from her site. Lots of pork today, but it is very lean
pork and all fat was trimmed off. |
| Sat - 3/25/2006 |
Didn't exercise in the evening. Spent the day working on
living room - until about 1:30am. Switched to skim milk from 1% going
forward. |
| Sun - 3/26/2006 |
I had a good walk this morning. This afternoon, walked to
A&W and back, about 3/4 mile round trip. I didn't hit the treadmill tonight.
I've been painting for two solid days, shopping with my wife today and then
the A&W walk. I didn't see the need for the treadmill. I've lost another 3
pounds this week for a total of 16 pounds in my first three weeks. This is
the end of my first week in Phase II with no difficulties noted. |
| Mon - 3/27/2006 |
Slow walk this morning, but still did 1 mile. Had cereal
again this morning and strawberries at supper. Weight loss was fine last
week with the reintroduction of carbs, so I'm being a bit adventurous. I
still have not experienced any side effects from either the lack of or
reintroduction of carbohydrates in my diet. I was too exhausted in the
evening for a walk and went to bed instead. |
| Tue - 3/28/2006 |
I hurt my right ankle this morning. Still aching tonight, so
I took it slow and easy on the treadmill to avoid additional damage to it.
Had enough lycopene today to keep the ol' prostate clean for a long, long
time. |
| Wed - 3/29/2006 |
Heading for Vegas. There may be no updates on my log this
week, though I will keep copious notes and fill in the information when I
return. |
| Sat - 4/1/2006 |
Returned from Vegas. Updated my menu and estimated about 5
miles per day walking in and out of casinos and up and down the strip each
day. I never really took time for "exercise" though. Throughout the trip, we
ate each meal out in restaurants and buffets, but I was able to keep all my
meals SB friendly. Only the scale will tell for sure, but I think I may have
gained a bit this week due to the amount of food eaten, however. Tomorrow,
I'll find out. I also twisted the hell out of my left ankle tonight and may
need to forgo the treadmill for a couple of days. |
| Sun - 4/2/2006 |
I got on the treadmill again this morning - slowly. I
weighed in and measured again after supper. I had weight loss, but stomach
and waist size increased a bit. Kat thinks we need to measure in the morning
instead of in the evening after supper. Perhaps we can try that next week
and see if there is a difference. I'm still happy to see the 2 pound
decrease after the Vegas trip. |
| Tue - 4/4/2006 |
I stepped on the scale tonight just for fun (yeah, I'm that
sick) and found I hit the south side of 180 for the first time since my back
injury in 1993. Even when the doctors had me doing ridiculous amounts of
physical therapy throughout the early-mid 90's, I didn't get below 180.
Thanks SB, Beth and Kat for motivating (coercing) me to do this diet. |
| Fri - 4/7/2006 |
I have not been very good at keeping notes this week. A bit
lazy, I guess. Still doing well on the diet though. Took a tiny taste of my
personal favorite, carrot cake with cream cheese frosting on Wednesday.
Somehow, I managed to walk away from the remainder of the cake afterward,
though it was sitting there right next to the coffee pot at work. Yeah for
me - I was proud of myself the rest of the day for not going back for
another taste. |
| Sun - 4/9/2006 |
My jeans now officially do not fit. Yesterday, while working
on my living room remodel, I was wearing a pair of them without a belt. I
found them difficult to keep pulled up and that they will even fall
completely down to my ankles if I'm not careful. I think I will dig into my
stash and see if some of my 34's will fit now. |
| Mon - 4/10/2006 |
Kat made another awesome dish tonight with the most tender
chicken I have ever had, coupled with brown rice and green beans. Didn't
walk in the AM. Kids were up. I did walk in the PM with the goal of
completing a mile in 15 minutes - which I just made. I walked at 3.5 mph for
8 minutes, 4.0 for 4 minutes and then jogged at 4.5 mph until I hit the mile
and my 15 minute time frame. I then continued walking at a cool-down pace of
3.0 mph for an additional 5 minutes for a total of 1.27 miles in 20 minutes. |
